The expected version of the product was not found on the system – Error when trying to Install SharePoint Service pack

Usually, This error occurs when we miss some in-between updates. e.g. I Installed MOSS 2007 SP1 + Language Pack SP1, then Installed MOSS 2007 SP2 without Language pack and when I tried installing Oct-2009 CU, I got this error.

The expected version of the product was not found on the system - Error when trying to Install SharePoint Service pack

Apparently we need to download and Install both the WSS and MOSS updates along with their language packs separately.

Once I installed SP2 for the WSS and MOSS Language Packs, the update installed just fine.

What if none of the above works?
In case, If you installed all the updates along with their language packs, and still getting this error, then you can by-pass the version check by providing “PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1” parameter to the installer.

e.g. run the installer from command line as:
wssv3lpsp2-kb953338-x64-fullfile-en-us.exe PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1

You can download the MOSS 2007 service packs from:

    • No. If you have WSS, no need to install MOSS service packs, but its not the other way around!

  • Yes, You can Slipstream Service packs with SharePoint installer. https://www.sharepointdiary.com/2011/04/how-to-create-slip-stream-version-of.html

    AutoSPInstaller also can help. https://autospinstaller.codeplex.com/

  • Hi Salaudeen,

Can we automate the SP1 installation Process, Since this looks tedious job that it will require input for execution. But am unable to achieve this ?? is there any way of achieving this ???

  • Hi,

Kindly confirm me if we bypass the detection check, is there any SharePoint functionalities impact in future.

I am facing the same problem while installing February CU 2011 in MOSS 2007 x64 with SP2 environment. Most of all the blogs saying it will happens when discrepancies with language packs service packs levels. But our case everything is updated only even though we are facing the issue during MOSS CU installation time but WSS CU was installed successfully.

    Thanks,

    • Hi Saravanan,

I would strongly recommend you to go for SharePoint service packs rather CU’s (Of course Service packs includes all the CUs). if you are very sure that you have installed all the in-between CUs, You can go ahead and skip the version check.

You can go for MOSS SP3 with its language packs for your scenario.
