Open with Explorer Error: You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The file cannot be accessed by the system.
Problem:
In an SSL-enabled SharePoint 2013 site, the “Open with Explorer” functionality didn’t work! Additionally, editing documents online did not work. It just opens the file in the Temporary Internet files folder and updates ONLY the local file but not the one in SharePoint.
Open with Explorer resulted in an error message:
\\[email protected]\DavWWWRoot is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The file cannot be accessed by the system.
Troubleshooting:
Tried various solutions, including hotfixes, registry fixes, etc.
- Analyzed and concluded this problem is happening only on certain machines. Its not related to user permission on the client machine or on the SharePoint sites.
- Tried KBs: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/912152, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2629108, with no luck
- Tried adding site to Trusted sites zone and lowered security settings.
- Tried running process monitor from client side and found WebDav access resulted in “Access Denied”
Solution:
And finally, the solution worked for me: Perform Windows update on client machine!!! Not very sure which patch fixed this problem, But the Windows update resolved this issue.
