How to Backup Local Folders Like My Documents, Desktop to OneDrive?
Did you know that you can back up your documents, desktop, and picture folders to OneDrive? It’s a great way to ensure that your data is safe in case of an accident or hard drive failure. Plus, if you ever lose your computer or stolen, you’ll still have access to all your files. Assuming you have a OneDrive account as part of a Microsoft 365 account and the OneDrive client installed on your local PC, and it’s running (If not, start it from %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe), Here are the steps to back up the important folders My Documents, Desktop and Pictures folder to OneDrive.
- Open the OneDrive client from the system tray (bottom-right area of the taskbar) >> Click on “Settings” >> On the “Backup” tab, click on “Manage backup”.
- In the “Manage folder Backup” page, select the folders that you want to back up and then click on “Start backup”.
- As soon as you click on “Start backup”, OneDrive starts the backup process on selected folders to the cloud.
Once Synched, you can view files in synched folders on any device, even if the source PC is lost. If you want to remove these folders from the backup, follow steps 1 and 2 above and click on the “Stop Backup” link on each folder to stop backing up the particular folder.
