How to Find the Owner of a Microsoft Forms?

Microsoft Forms is a popular online survey, questionnaire, and quiz tool that is part of the Microsoft 365 suite. It allows users to easily create forms, quizzes, and surveys and distribute them to collect user responses. There are instances when identifying the owner of a specific form becomes crucial, whether it’s for collaboration, understanding the context of the form, or addressing specific inquiries.

But how do you find who owns a specific Microsoft Form? Well, If you have a URL to a Microsoft Form but don’t know who created it, there are ways to find out the owner. In this quick guide, we will dive into a workaround to figure out the creator of Microsoft Forms.

Step 1: Find the Owner ID from Web Browser Developer Tools

Here is how to determine the Microsoft Form owner: Make sure you have access to the form before proceeding.

  1. Open any of your favorite Web browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.
  2. Press F12 to open Dev Tools
  3. Go to the “Network” tab of the Dev tools, Enter the particular Microsoft Form URL in the web browser, and hit enter.
  4. Find the file “ResponsePageStartup.ashx” under the “Responses” tab, navigate to the JSON node “Form” >> “Data”, and select the “OwnerId.” This ID is the AAD ID of the user or group.

Step 2: Locate the User or Group from Azure AD (Microsoft Entra)

The next step is to get the user or group from the OwnerID obtained in the previous step. Here is how:

  1. Login to Microsoft Entra with your Admin credentials.
  2. Under the “Identity” page, you’ll find a search box. Enter the ID you copied in the previous step and hit enter.
  3. You’ll see the User or group of that ID.

You can also use the Azure AD PowerShell module to find the User or group from the Object ID:
